ARTIFACTS ASSEMBLY is a non-fiction feature film based on a dialogue between 11 musical pieces performed by the Centre de Perfeccionament del Palau de Les Arts and a selection of works from the IVAM's exhibitions and collection.

The museum closes its doors. The last visitors leave, the hall is deserted, the lights go out. The security guard stops, when she hears a melody. Torch in hand, she searches for the source of the sound. She listens attentively to a ghostly lyric. These are the first notes of a synaesthetic itinerary, from the bowels of an artistic archive to the magnitude of an opera house.

The correspondences between performers and works guide us through the forms of Julio González, the sensitivity of Matilde Salvador or Leonard Bernstein, the gaze of Cindy Sherman, the gravity of Samuel Barber, the performativity of Miguel Benlloch and Carles Santos, the displacements of Martha Rosler and Equipo Crónica, or the rhythms of Teresa Lanceta, among many others.


This analogy between modern and contemporary art and musical works leads to a reflection on montage, whether scenic, exhibition, or cinematic, as a threshold for imagining convergences between different disciplines.

Through this assembly of narrative artifacts, we delve into the gears of the museum and theater as a large choreographed mechanism. That which is usually visible is concealed, and in the movement, the work of visitors, restorers, installers, directors, and sound technicians comes to light. Along the way, the white square will become a stage, and the score will be a matter of operatives.
